How we Meassure FAQ
Before making a research like “ecommerce web hosting comparison” it takes several weeks or months of research. Initially all we wanted to make was a “domain hosting/registrar comparison”, a few pages here and there about hosting providers in Northern America.
Q: How reliable are the results?
A: We use the monitor.us service, the website status is checked every 30 minutes round the clock from two geographical areas (EU and US). The average uptime is calculated on the basis of the general statistics of a week. We consider that the accuracy of observations is sufficient and are constantly looking for ways to improve the reliability of results.
Q: Can the observational result depend on issues with network connection?
A: To exclude such a possibility, the website status is being checked from two continents: in Europe and the United States. Factors, not related to the ecommerce webhosting itself, are excluded this way.
Q: How many websites do you use for the collection of statistics?
A: For each web hosting, we gather statistics on uptime from 200 sites.
Q: By what principle do you select sites for observation?
A: We consider that the site is located on the given hosting, if this site’s domain NS records contains the NS servers of this web hosting. We also check that the site has the CMS installed and the web site is filled with content.
Q: After which timeout the site is considered to be inaccessible?
A: We consider that the site does not work if it does not load within 10 seconds.
Q: How can we see the list of domains on each hosting, for whom you are watching?
A: The list of domains does not appear anywhere. We respect the personal information of the site owners and never disclose it. We simply use data for a generalized statistics.
